A Stock Market History Guide

By Matt Harris

In today's world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

In 1929, one of the darkest times in stock market history, as well American history took place. During the famous "Black Tuesday" the ticker tape fell behind by two and a half hours. But if we the church in America will stand in the gap and humble ourselves and pray we will see the biggest explosion in stock market history. Every nation is either under a blessing or a curse depending upon the condition of the church of Jesus Christ within it. Yes, we've even included a relatively recent addition in this article on stock market history. And that's because we recognize the importance of this particular exchange.

Early in our country's history and stock market history, Boston was the original financial center of America. In Boston bonds for projects that included roads, canals, bridges and commodities such as hides and molasses, were sold and bought by dealers in Boston. According to stock market history, the first organized stock exchange was created in 1792. NYSE is arguably the oldest and most well known of all the American stock markets. Welcome to one of the worst years in stock market history! Hopefully, the 2009 will not be the worst year of the stock market history.

That's one reason why I think those long, flat periods that I mentioned in 100 Years of Stock Market History are important. For bulls and bears alike, the 1930s was the most fantastic period in stock market history. Stock prices collapsed between 1929 and 1932, losing an average 88%, but industrial, rail, and utility stocks all shot up from their lows in the summer of 1932, anticipating the end of hard times. It may have been the worst year in stock market history, but we can?t remember when we had such a good time. We barely broke a sweat the entire year; never were there more jackasses to laugh at or more con artists to admire.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of stock market is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about stock market.

The main reason is that people are naturally cautious, especially with their own money, and the return on stocks is highly volatile from day to day. This inclination toward caution is perfectly reasonable, reflecting an intuitive understanding of an important financial truth: the average return is not the only thing that matters when evaluating an investment. Shiller, a respected expert on market volatility, offers an unconventional interpretation of recent U.S. He warns that poorer performance may be in the offing and tells us how we--as a country and individually--can respond.

Recently we have experienced one of the sharpest declines in stock market history. It has taken stocks to their lowest prices in 11 years. In 1929, one of the darkest times in stock market history, as well American history took place. This helped contribute to $100 billion in lost assets to investors. My point in exploring this extended stock market history is to demonstrate that the widely accepted notion of a reliable 5 percent equity risk premium is a myth. Over this full 207-year span, the average stock market yield and the average bond yield have been nearly identical.

Thus, stock market chart history helps a person in many ways in ascertaining the stock market moves and in making right types of moves regarding selling and buying of different types of stocks. The above given fact was an imaginary one and now, let us try to understand more about the stock market chart history by taking as examples the stock markets of U.S in 1920s and 1930s. The private banks also started to increase money at that time by issuing their own shares and stocks and selling them in the market to increase their own funds. This also lured the rich people as they saw that it was a good method of getting richer. According to Murray Sayle, the Dutch were the originators of short selling, option trading, debt-equity swaps, merchant banking, unit trusts, and other speculative instruments. - 23218

An Insight Into Value Investing

By James Anderson

Value investing is the secret to long-term growth. The ones who can learn about it will be more adept at handling the fluctuations of the market than those who cannot pick up this skill. The basic characteristic of value investing is that it involves buying securities ? the shares of which seem under-priced by basic analysis. In fact, the essence of value investing may be said to be purchasing stocks at a value that is less than their intrinsic value.

The concept of value investing was established by David Dodd and Benjamin Graham ? they were both professors at Columbia Business School, and taught many well-known investors. Today, value investing is a smart strategy when it comes to investment. Buying low PE ratio stocks, low price-to-cash flow ratio stocks, or low price-to-cook ratio stocks all come under value investing. Famous people in the field of value investing include William J. Ruana, Irving Kahn, Charles Brandes, and Warren Buffet ? who is probably the most famous among them.

When it comes to value investing, one can follow four certain basic tips. Firstly, one should look not just at the current share price, but also at the value of the entire company. The cost of buying the whole company is called market capitalization, and through the market capitalization test, you will be able to know if you are paying extra for a stock. You can also estimate the cost of a stock through the price to earnings ratio ? because this gives a decent standard for comparison for other value investing opportunities.

The second tip - observe ? is the company buying back shares? Ideally, you should have a management that tries to reduce the number of outstanding shares, if the other uses of capital are not value for money ? this will make each investor?s stake in the company bigger. Third, in the field of value investing, consider your advantages for investing in the company. Think about the aspects that interest you, and don?t forget to observe the current price, profits, management, staff, etc. Also, treat this as a business transaction ? don?t get emotionally attached to the company, keep your feeling in check. Does the stock seem undervalued? Then keep away from it.

Fourthly, and lastly, take a moment to think about whether you?d like to own the stock for the next decade or so. Are you willing to buy the shares and keep them for that long a time? If not, then this value investing is not your cup of tea. Here?s a valuable tip ? select a good company, when it comes to the initial stake, pay as little as permitted, ensure a reinvestment of dividends ? remember that effort and time are required.

The fundamental principle of value investing is based on the conjecture that there will always be some kind of fluctuation or disturbance in the market. Therefore, since the values of equities are constantly in flux, and changing in different directions, their fundamental values will differ ? and thus, some are likely to give better returns than others. So go for shares whose values have fallen (for no apparent reason), if you want to be great at value investing, and wait for the situation to correct itself. - 23218

What Affects The Forex Markets in the Short Term?

By Hass67

Fundamental traders depend on fundamental analysis in trading forex. Technical traders depend on technical analysis in trading forex. But the importance of economic data cannot be underestimated in shaping trading strategies.

Over 90 percent of currency transactions are done against USD. USD is either the base currency or the counter currency in most of the currency trades.

For success in forex trading, choice of the right currency pair to trade is very important. US Dollar is the most important currency and most probably you will be also trading US Dollar as a forex trader most of the time. You should know that the release of certain economic data has significant and lasting impact on US Dollar.

You should know as a forex trader that currency markets reaction to the release of different economic data with time also changes. Some years back, US GDP figures used to be important for US Dollar but dont have much impact in recent years.

EUR/USD is the most liquid pair in the forex market and is heavily traded. The release of Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data on the first Friday of each month has become important in recent years. These figures makes EUR/USD and other pairs involving US Dollar highly volatile for some time until the markets digest the importance of these figures.

Similarly, a few years back the release of US housing sales number every month was not important for the currency markets. But it has become very significant for USD in the recent years. Currency markets used to give more importance to US Trade Balance in the past but they dont react to these figures much now.

If you are a range trader who likes to scalp for a few pips every trade, you should avoid trading on the day NFP data is released. Release of NFP figures makes the markets jittery and highly volatile.

However, if you use breakout trading as your trading strategy, understanding which economic data is expected to be released on a particular day can help you in your trading. You should plan your trading strategy in accordance with the significance of the economic data to be released.

In nutshell, understanding that some economic indicators move the forex markets most is very important for you as a trader. It is also important for you to know which economic data the market deems most important at any point in time.

Knowledge of which economic data causes knee jerk reaction in the currency markets and which economic data usually has lasting reaction in the currency markets is also important for your trading success. - 23218
